What is a travel advisor? Should you use one for your next trip? Take the quiz!

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed trying to plan a trip – scrolling through endless reviews, juggling tabs for flights, accommodations, and activities – you’re not alone. Travel planning has become more complex than ever, and that’s exactly where a travel advisor comes in.

In a world full of online booking tools, AI-generated itineraries, and endless travel blogs, you might be wondering: What is a travel advisor, and do I really need one?

A travel advisor is a professional who helps plan, book, and manage travel experiences tailored specifically to your needs. Think of a travel advisor as your personal trip curator, logistics expert, and behind-the-scenes problem solver. Unlike an online search engine or chatbot, a travel advisor brings real-world expertise, trusted connections, and a human touch to every step of your journey.

What’s the difference between a travel agent and a travel advisor?

The terms “travel advisor” and “travel agent” are often used interchangeably, but there are differences. Travel agents are order-takers, while travel advisors truly advise and focus on high-level personalization, customization, and support. We do everything a travel agent does, plus serve as your personal travel expert to support and empower you from the beginning to the end of your trip.

What does a travel advisor actually do?

Here’s what you can expect when you work with a travel advisor:

  • Stress-free Custom Itinerary Planning: Advisors design itineraries tailored to your interests, pace, and budget, so all you have to do is enjoy.
  • Expert Recommendations: From hidden-gem stays to must-try local eats, advisors provide personalized tips based on firsthand experience and insider knowledge.
  • Logistics & Bookings: Hotels, transfers, and tours – all booked with care and coordination.
  • Support When You Need It: If things go wrong while you’re abroad (flight delays, lost reservations, unexpected hiccups), your advisor is there to help.
  • Access to Perks: Travel advisors often have access to exclusive upgrades, deals, and experiences through trusted networks.

So… Do you need one?

If you love spending hours researching every detail and feel confident managing it all on your own, then maybe not. But if you want:

  • A truly custom, stress-free travel experience
  • Help deciding where to go based on your travel style and goals, especially in regions you’re unfamiliar with
  • Support while you’re on the road
  • Exclusive perks, insider recommendations, and local connections you won’t find online

… then a travel advisor is a game-changer.

Why work with me as your travel advisor?

Hi, I’m Hallie – your personal travel planner and Asia and solo travel expert. I specialize in creating custom itineraries for travelers who crave thoughtfully planned, authentic adventures. thinking about solo traveling in new zealand? here thinking about solo traveling in new zealand? here are 5 things you need to know before you go 🇳🇿✨

1️⃣ it’s one of the safest and easiest countries to travel solo, making it perfect for first-timers and solo travelers still building their confidence
2️⃣ it’s absolutely jaw-dropping… but very spread out, so logistics matter. if you have 2 weeks or less, I recommend focusing only on the south island
3️⃣ it’s on the more expensive side, so most solo travelers stay in hostels and cook most of their meals. hiking is a very popular low-cost activity, but it’s no joke - no get your steps in before your trip!
4️⃣ speaking of hiking, solo hiking safety is important to think about. always let someone know your plans (even if it’s the front desk worker at your hostel) like where you’re going, when you expect to be back, and how to reach you. pay very close attention to the weather (it can change in an instant) and ask locals if it’s safe to hike that day. many hostels will organize group hiking trips, so take advantage of those
5️⃣ if you never want to worry about being alone or getting around, I highly recommend doing the kiwi experience, a hop-on, hop-off bus that helps you make friends & see all the highlights without driving. or, if you’d prefer to not lift a finger, join a group trip! you don’t have to explore new zealand completely on your own, even as a solo traveler

🎒 if you want to build your own solo new zealand adventure, whether it’s with a group or a supported custom itinerary, I’d love to help. I specialize in custom trips + solo travel planning, so send me a message or hit the link in bio to get started! 💌

2 weeks in new zealand’s south island is the kin 2 weeks in new zealand’s south island is the kind of trip you’ll remember forever 💖

I did this exact itinerary solo with the @kiwiexperience south & sound pass, and it was honestly one of the easiest and most fun ways to explore, especially if you’re traveling alone. the scenery? unmatched. the people? instant friends. the vibes? immaculate.

this itinerary works for anyone, but if you’re thinking about making it happen on your own, consider this your sign to stop waiting for travel companions and do it solo 🗺️
